| We are pleased to invite our members to this special event hosted by MAHMA. One of the five Collabortive Partners of La Senora in presenting concerts in a traditional 'chamber' setting. "The Lost Art of the Recital" event carries the tradition a step further by being followed by a discussion led by distinguished author, Annette Kaufman, -- who is known to add her witty and fascinating stories to discussions. The Recitals take place on March 2nd at 7 p.m. (6:30 p.m. for refreshments) and again March 5th at 7:30 p.m. (7 p.m. for refreshments) at the Malibu estate of Maria Newman and Scott Hosfield, the Montgomery Arts House for Music and Architecture. The evening has been generously sponsored in part by the Hosfeld, Cohen and Kaufman families. Directions will be provided to those who make reservations with La Senora by e-mailing music@lasenora.org by noon March 1st for the 3/2 performance and by March 3rd for the 3/5 performance. La Senora members have been warmly invited as their guests to experience great chamber music as it was heard in the era of Beethoven and Schumann:----- so close-up that you might feel you could "touch" it. Venue: Montgomery Arts House for Music and Architecture 6307 Busch Drive Malibu, CA. 90265 "The Lost Art of the Recital" In the early and mid 20th Century, cello and piano teams traveled the globe performing recitals for a public that thirsted to hear and meet their favorite artists. Fans were able to recognize these superb musicians by the quality of their individual sounds and the uniqueness of their musical language. But this art has been lost. Only a few recital superstars remain in a world that now hungers instead for pop culture, immediate satisfaction and a noise level prohibiting discussion. Montgomery House for the Arts, in Malibu is presenting two evenings in remembrance of a time lost, when music lovers would gather for friendship, refreshments, and to discuss their favorite music, and, just as heartily, declare their individual opinions. A time when discussion, as one of the few forms of entertainment, was wielded effortlessly. These evenings will present a dynamic cellist: the award-winning Andrew Shulman, who joins esteemed pianist Wendy Prober for a recital of exquisite gems of the classical repertoire. As the years fall away, allowing simpler times to emerge, the two will become one in performances of masterworks by Beethoven and Robert Schumann, a world premiere by MAHMA's Composer-in-Residence, Maria Newman, and a brilliantly riveting work of Erwin Schulhoff, who sadly perished in a concentration camp in World War II. You are already a part of La Senora's unique portal to Cultural History. (Don't forget to renew your membership for 2010. This can be done online at http://lasenora.org/donations.asp.) We invite you to enjoy this rare opportunity to hear, discuss and focus upon a cello/piano team in MAHMA's incredibly inspiring architectural setting.
